This morning at the first council meeting since the election Councillor Wendy Boglary was appointed as Deputy Mayor for Redland.
Ms Boglary said she’s looking forward to working alongside Mayor Karen Williams.
“I’m actually really excited, that’s sincere, I’ve said to her for a while that her [Mayor Williams] and I together will be a formidable force,” Ms Boglary said.
She is confident she is the right person for the job.
“I feel that after two terms and two very different terms that I now have the skill and maturity in the job to assist the mayor and other councillors in our processes and day to day activities,” she said.
Ms Boglary says that her and Mayor Williams have similarities and differences.
“We’ve both got the same level of drive and passion and energy and perhaps slightly different views so if you get them to combine – I think it’s going to be a whirlwind. I think we’ll really achieve and it will be really positive and constructive for the Redlands community,” she said.
Locals want the turmoil seen within council over recent years to stop.
“Everyone has had enough. I think council has been divided since the seventies… for goodness sake we all got into council to put the community first. Let’s put all that energy into best community outcomes.
“I think that Karen and I working together will send that signal; that the nonsense is stopping now,” Ms Boglary said.
Today’s decision will see Cr Boglary serve as Deputy Mayor for a one-year period, with Councillors to then vote on the person to serve as Deputy Mayor for the next 12 months.
The new Council has also adopted the meeting schedule for the year with the first full General Meeting scheduled for Wednesday 27 April.
