The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) says that stores across the country are set to bring in $16.8 billion from Boxing Day sales up until January 15.
This is off the back of a more than a 3% increase in spending over Christmas time.
“This is good news for our City where retail is one of the major employers” says Redland City Chamber of Commerce President Garry Hargrave.
The Chamber ran their annual 100% Redlands Christmas Challenge getting residents to buy all their pressies within the Redlands.
“We still have too much leakage of expenditure from the city to other areas,” Mr Hargrave says. “It is important for all Redlanders to support their local retailers”.
According to Mr Hargrave Toondah and Shoreline are predicted to bring thousands of jobs to the region boosting the local economy.
“The construction industry in Redland City is doing well at present and this is creating more confidence in the economy which is reflected in local spending.”
