State Treasurer Jackie Trad says the looming state budget will deliver further $11 million to Stradbroke Island as it transitions from sand mining.
The extra $11 million will be allocated in next week’s Budget and is in addition to the $20 million allocated in 2016.
The Treasurer says the funding will be allocated over three years and used to finance a range of projects from tourism related infrastructure to national park management and it will also include the expansion of the existing aged care facility.
“With the end of sand mining on Straddie the time is right to invest in the projects that will shape the island’s future economy, working side-by-side with the QuandamookaYoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation.”
Sand mining activities are due to stop on North Stradbroke in 2019.
