A backflip by Racing Minister Grace Grace over corporate betting levels has been welcomed by Deputy LNP leader Deb Frecklington.
“This week’s backflip by Racing Queensland on a minimum bet limit for corporate bookmakers in Queensland is not only a win for punters and country racing, it’s a victory for common sense.”
“Racing Minister Grace Grace has been dragged kicking and screaming to this decision just two months after she categorically ruled it out – I smell an election in the wind.”
The decision comes after announcements from the Minister in January the government had no intention of introducing laws to implement minimum bet limits in Queensland.
Ms Frecklington says this government has pushed Queensland’s racing industry from pillar to post over the past two year.
“It’s clear Labor has no appreciation for what country racing means to regional Queenslanders. In a time of crippling drought, the local race meeting is often the one thing people can look forward to. “
Ms Frecklington is now calling on the government to reverse their prize money cuts, governance changes, QTIS cuts and all the other policy decisions that she says has turned the industry upside down.
