Local councils and community groups are encouraged to apply for up to $2 million in funding to make the area safer through infrastructure or early intervention crime prevention strategies.
The Safer Communities Fund is aimed at enhancing the efforts of local groups to address crime and antisocial behaviour, and this year it’s been boosted by an additional $30 million confiscated by the Commonwealth as proceeds of crime.
The funds can be for infrastructure such as CCTV, bollards, lighting and crime prevention through environmental design initiatives.
Grant applications for round three of the Safer Communities Fund are now open.
As well as the infrastructure stream, this round of funding includes a separate early intervention stream for community organisations to deliver crime prevention or activity-based youth engagement projects.
Applications for both the infrastructure and intervention streams close on 25 September 2018.
Information on how to apply is available on the Australian Government’s Safer Communities Fund – Infrastructure Stream website at business.gov.au/safer-communities-fund, or by calling 13 28 46.
